Inspiration Gallery

A celebration of color, texture, and the hands that create them.

Life at SDANG

Needlepoint is a social craft. This section features our community in action—from our in-person tables in San Diego to our “Zoom squares” across the country.

  • Stitching Together: Scenes from our monthly “Social Stitch-ins.”
  • Hybrid Connection: How we stay connected with our online members during programs.
  • The Learning Process: Photos of hands in motion during a technique demonstration.

Member Show-and-Tell

Every month, our members share their progress. We celebrate everything from a beginner’s first “tent stitch” to complex, master-level canvases.

  • New Finishes: Freshly completed projects
  • Work-in-Progress: A look at the “middle stage” of stitching—where the magic happens.
  • Workshop Success: Pieces created during our guest teacher sessions.

Featured “Firsts”

New to the craft? Don’t be intimidated by the experts. We are especially proud of our members’ very first projects.

Share Your Stitching: Photo Submission Guide

We want to celebrate your work! Whether it’s a completed masterpiece, a “Work-in-Progress” (WIP), or your very first project, please send your photos to our Technology Chairs, Shirley Chin or Jeannie Roehrs.

1. How to Take a Great Photo

  • Natural Light: Take your photo near a window during the day. Avoid using a flash, as it can wash out the colors of your threads.
  • Keep it Steady: Prop your phone or camera on a stable surface to avoid “blurry” stitches.
  • The Background: Place your piece on a neutral, solid-colored background (like a tabletop or a plain piece of fabric) so your needlepoint is the star!

2. What to Include in Your Email

To help us stay organized and make our website accessible to everyone, please include these three details:

  1. Your Name: (Exactly as you’d like it to appear in the gallery).
  2. Project Title/Designer: (e.g., “Floral Basket by Susan Portra”).
  3. One-Sentence Description: This will be used for our Alt Text (e.g., “A close-up of a floral canvas using silk ribbons and metallic threads.”)
